Nitrous Oxide

Feeling a little anxious about your dental treatment? Dr. Jorge Rojas offers nitrous oxide in Westminster, Colorado. As a mild sedation option, this treatment leaves you relaxed but comfortable as our dentist and team see to your dental needs. For more information about our sedation options, call Monarch Family Dental at 303-920-4900 and schedule a visit with us.

Nitrous oxide is one of the most common sedation methods offered in dental care. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide (N2O) is a safe and comfortable sedation method that is administered through a nose mask as a mild vapor. When breathing in the gas, you will feel a relaxed sensation but remain conscious during treatment, which allows you to communicate freely with our dentist and team. Because it is a mild sedative, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after treatment, which allows you to drive safely home after your visit with our dentist.

If you are uncomfortable during dental treatments or experience dental anxiety, nitrous oxide is a great option for you to feel calm and relaxed as your dental needs are addressed. This sedation option is affordable and can make your dental experience an easy and simple one.

Our skilled dentist and team are happy to address any of your concerns and provide compassionate care as we help you maintain your oral health. If you have any questions about nitrous oxide or sedation dentistry, we encourage you to contact our dental office today to learn more and schedule an appointment with our friendly dentist and team.

Can You Still Feel Pain with Laughing Gas?

Nitrous Oxide does have an element of analgesic effects, but it is not designed to be used as the only form of anesthetic. However, if you are having a treatment that could arouse pain or discomfort, then Dr. Jorge Rojas will usually ensure you also have a local anesthetic to numb the pain at the site of the treatment. Essentially, this type of sedation will slow down your nervous system, and the resulting effect is that you will feel slightly less inhibited, calmer, and worry-free.

Why Does Dr. Rojas Use Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous Oxide is effective, safe, and works quickly to help patients feel calmer and less anxious.

  • Ideal for nervous patients.
  • It can help to reduce choking and gag reflex.
  • It helps patients relax and feel calm throughout.
  • Patients can immediately return to work after the treatment.

When a patient breathes pure oxygen through a mask, this helps the effects of the Nitrous Oxide wear off quickly. When using this type of sedation, a patient is still able to clearly communicate with Dr. Rojas. Any side effects are minimal and will quickly wear off. If you suffer from dental anxiety or you are nervous about a particular procedure, nitrous oxide sedation is a safe and effective way to help you feel at ease and relax before your treatment.

What are the Side Effects of Nitrous Oxide?

  • Shivers
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness

Once the Nitrous Oxide is switched off, a patient will receive oxygen via the mask to help avoid any headaches. This will help purge any remaining gas from a patient’s lungs, and it can also help the patient feel more alert, quicker.

Nitrous Oxide has been used in dentistry since the late 1800s. It is a safe, effective, easy to administer technique with virtually no downsides. It is particularly advantageous for nervous patients and can help transform how they feel before, during, and after having treatment at our office.
